He is survived by: his mother Theresa Shorter Thomas; his children, Wanda Estep (Sean) and Comas Coleman; his grandchildren, Nakyah, Patience, LaShawn, Kayla, Izaiah, Calvin and Matthew; his siblings, Joyce Shorter Dickens, Vanessa Shorter, Carolyn Marshall, Wanda Hall, Charles Shorter (Allison), Kevin, Joseph and Diane Lyles; his friends, Diane Brawner, Sylvester Heard, Stanley Wood and Robert Dyson; and his close friend Barbara Rosier.
