He was predeceased by: his parents, Gladys Hope Benner (Warren) and Fred White Benner; his wife Eleanor May Benner (Dobbins); his sister Ellen Whalen; and his niece Esther.

He is survived by: his siblings, Warren Benner and Esther Longfellow; his children, Andrew Benner (Stephanie) of Farmingdale, James Benner (Karen) of Farmingdale, Stephen Benner (Lisa) of Farmingdale, Susan Shepherd (Eric) of Farmingdale and Linda Stahlnecker (Jim) of Farmingdale; his grandchildren, Devin, Bradley, Eva, Westley, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Joshua, Nathaniel, Julia, J. Benjamin, Emalee, Amanda and Sarah; and his great grandchild Ezra.
