It is with great sadness that we announce the death of William Joseph Nichols Jr. (Augusta, Maine), who passed away on September 22, 2022, at the age of 78, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, William and Susan "Jane" Nichols Sr. (Carpenter); his brother Robert Nichols; and his brother-in-law Jerry Alpert. He is survived by: his wife Mary O'Brien; his children, Gretchen Nichols-Akiki (Joseph) and Christian Nichols (Dawn); the mother of his children Jeanne; his grandchildren, Joseph, Marie Akiki (Tyler), Martin Akiki (Valentina), Bethany Nichols (Joe), Christian Nichols (Natalie) and Lilith Nichols; his great grandchild George Samuel Joseph Akiki; his brother Martin Nichols; his sister-in-law Sherri; and his son Michael Pettengill. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
After graduating from high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force and often reminisced about the time he spent stationed in remote Goose Bay, Labrador, which he said prepared him for isolation during Covid.
