He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald V. Atwater and Dora Noyes Atwater; and his brother Peter Atwater (Judith Leighton Atwater). He is survived by: his wife Judy Leighton; his grandchild Guppy; his children, John Atwater (Kris Engman) of Liberty, Maine and Laurie Atwater (Jim Shaw) of Lexington, MA; his grandson Devin Shaw of Somerville, MA; his daughters, Andrea Atwater (Jim Gallegos) of Bangor and Rebecca Pratt (Joe) of Bangor; his granddaughters, Megan (Kenny Maguire) of Lincolnville and Chelsea Pratt of Littleton, Colorado; and his sibling's children, David Atwater of Bellevue and Jody Atwater Moseley of Shingle Springs, California..
