He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Gilbert and Ellen Gilbert (Simpson); his daughters, Shawna Jean, Terri (Lynn) and Lynn; and his brothers, Edward (Sandra), James and David.

He is survived by: his wife Patty Gilbert (Pomeroy); his siblings-in-law, Gene Pomeroy (Betty), Shari Blais (Denis) and Audrey (Charlene); his children, Stephen, Bobbie and Jo Caron; his granddaughters, Stacia, Brittany and Madalyn; and his niece Shelly. He is also survived by six great‑grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
