He was predeceased by : his parents, Edmund Saunders and Amy Kuhn (Merrick); his former life partner Lora Saunders; his sons, John and David Saunders; his stepdaughter Kathy Campbell Reed; his brothers, Harold and Jon Saunders; and his nephews, Ken and Alan Saunders.

He is survived by : his wife Diane Campbell Saunders; his stepson Bill Campbell (Kelly); his daughters-in-law, Louise Woods (Edwin) and Laura Shafer (Geary); his nephew Jim Saunders (Rebecca); his nieces, Pam Batten, Susan Eagle and Peggy Thiel; his grandchildren, Sara Saunders Lineberger, Bradley Saunders, Shelby and Cathleen Shafer; and his stepgrandchildren, Kimberly Nutt, Rosaline, Robert, Grace and Kate Campbell. He is also survived by 3 great-grandchildren.
