He was predeceased by: his parents, John Hayward and Pamelia Hayward. He is survived by: his wife Avis; his siblings, Charles Hayward of Richmond, Massachusetts, Jeffrey, Robin Hayward of Bridgton, Maine, Barbara and Christopher Aiudi of Old Saybrook, Connecticut; his sister-in-law Betsy Senior Hayward of New York City; his children, Jon Hayward of Massachusetts, Robert Hayward (Jo Carbonell) of Vermont and Ryan MacDonald of Maine; his grandchildren, Felix Hayward, Anthony MacDonald, Andrew MacDonald and Ryan MacDonald; his nieces, Kirstin Hayward and Alexis Aiudi; and his nephew Drew Hayward.
