It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James Richard Mathews (Cherryfield, Maine), born in Winter Harbor, Maine, who passed away on December 8, 2025, at the age of 88, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, James Mathews and Bernice Mathews (Harrington); his wife Audrey; his daughter Karen Henry; his sister Lucille MacQuarrie; his brother-in-law Carroll; his sister Gloria Bagley; his brothers-in-law, Roland Morse and Julian Bagley; his brother Foster Mathews; his nephew Rodney Morse; his stepchildren, Margo (Wayne) and Earl Caler; and his aunt Grace Gerrish.
He is survived by: his former wife Octavia Johnson; his grandchildren, Karlee Frisby, James Baldwin and Randy Caler; his great grandchildren, Ian, Jonah, Hunter, Riley Frisby of Arkansas, Aaron Caler, Amanda Kennedy and Andrea Hartford; his great great grandchild Paisley Frisby of Texas; his stepson Lemont Caler (Carol); his sister-in-law Leta Mathews; his nieces, Kelley Wescott, Amy Mathews, Katie Parker and Susie Morse; his great-nieces, Laura Morse, Lanie Morse and Emma Parker; his great-nephew Nicholas Morse; his cousins, Margie, Kathy, Mike Gerrish and Gordon Harrington; and his friends, Bill, Deb Sehl, Ruth Crowley, Karen Redimarker, Michelle McCann, Alvin, Lauren Hall, Richie Willey, Art Tatangelo and Doug Finn.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January 10th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the First Congregational Church (12 River Rd, Cherryfield, ME 04622).
