He is survived by: his wife Patricia High McMurry; his children, William Thomas McMurry, Jr. (Lee Ann Drury) and Carole McMurry Drury (Robert Lee Drury); his granddaughters, Clare McMurry Smith (Alexander) and Mary Wells Oberdorff (Cole); his great grandchild Grady McLanahan Smith; and his nephews, Robert Greenwell (Kathy), Bill Greenwell (Sharon), David Greenwell (Patty), John Greenwell (Margaret), George Tawes (Patricia), Robert Tawes (Bonnie) and John Tawes.
