He was predeceased by: his wife Evelyn; and his parents, Willis Lakeman and Lula Lakeman (Lyons). He is survived by: his children, Kelli (Michael Hurley), Lynn (Rod Nicholson) and Gary (Diana Lakeman); his grandchildren, Matthew Hurley, Michael Nicholson (Corey Colwill), Brooke (Brett Herring) and Jenna (Parker Walker); his great grandchildren, Jackson Herring and Harrison Walker; his siblings, Robert, Mickey, Marilyn (Chuck) and Tammy (David); and his siblings-in-law, Mary McLaughlin, Donna Carlstrom, Arlene Carlstrom and Ansel Carlstrom. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
