He was predeceased by: his parents, Ivar Viitala and Agda Viitala (Hoglund); his wife Glenys Tripp; and his siblings, Doris Hall, Anne Lowell, Edna Wiley, Lida Brackett and Kenneth.
He is survived by: his children, Lars Viitala of Harrison and Randa Viitala of Harrison; and his sister Nancy Kirkpatrick of Wyalusing, Pennsylvania. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
