Rose T. Goodwin Obituary
Rose Theresa Goodwin, 97, of Lewiston died peacefully on November 18, 2023.
Daughter of Michael and Eleanor McCarthy Nathan, Rose was born on December 16, 1925 in Mile End Village in London. As a teenager during the Blitz of World War II, Rose was employed by the Grocer's Gazette, a trade newspaper which carried all of the news of the day and she also volunteered at the National Fire Service plotting locations of where the bombs had created fires.
In 1946 Rose married and American Air Force serviceman, Calvin Goodwin. Rose arrived in America by ship with many other war brides, and she and Cal made their home in Norwalk, Connecticut for many years. In 1970, Rose went to work for the Fairfield County Savings Bank where she eventually became its only senior female officer.
In 2004, Rose moved to Lewiston where she became an active parishioner of Holy Family Church serving as a lector and choir member. Rose also a longtime member of L-A Senior College enjoying her time as board chair and as a member of various committees. It was here that she was able to share her journals describing the events of her childhood in wartime London.
Rose was predeceased by her husband Calvin R. Goodwin and her son, Rev. Calvin M. Goodwin, FSSP. She is survived by her nephew, John Edgar and his family of London. A special note of gratitude to Rose's friends who loved and supported her in recent years: John and Cathy Goodwin, Jo Belanger, Bert Pelletier, David Bernier, Debbie Pratt and Mike and Jennifer Lachance. A special note of thanks to the caregivers at Montello Manor especially Emily and Carolyn.
A Funeral Mass will celebrate her life on Tuesday, Nov 28 at 10AM, at St. Mary's Church in Norwalk, Ct. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery in Norwalk.
