He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Joseph Allegretta and Elizabeth "Betty" Allegretta (Bartek); his wife Cathy Cestaro (Breen); his son Andrew Allegretta (Jessica Curtis); his stepsons, Cameron Cestaro (Katie) and Connor Cestaro (Taylor Dickson); his brother Mark (Emily Ferris); his sister-in-law Susan Breen; his father-in-law Gordon Breen (Jill Teeple); his nieces and nephews, Adam (Audrey Allegretta), Curtis (Cailey Brennan), Kenzie and Riley (Meghan Breen); his stepgrandchildren, Max and Evie Cestaro; and his mother-in-law Gervaise Cameron.

In July 2012 he was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.
