He was predeceased by: his mother Doris Smith (Woods); his brother Jerry Smith; and his siblings-in-law, Lawrence, Ralph, John, Philip "Bud" Nelson and Marion Reed.

He is survived by: his wife Marjorie Nelson; his children, Kevin (Cheryl) and Sare; his grandchildren, Morgan, Riley (Ben), Kyle (Lauren) and Lindsey (Quinn); his great grandchildren, Sam and Galen; his siblings, Ronald Smith (Doris) and Sue Giggey (Smith); and his brothers-in-law, Pat Nelson and Peter Nelson. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
