He was predeceased by: his parents, Barbara A. Smith (Wills) of Watertown, MA and Joseph D. Smith of Cleveland, Ohio.; his brother Scott S. Smith; and his grandparents, Charles, Lucy Wills, George and Anna Smith.

He is survived by: his wife Blue Kathy Smith (McLaughlin); his children, Donald C. Smith II (Jessica Leonard) of Kittery, ME and Michelle D. Smith (Chef John Caron) of Scarborough, ME; his siblings, Gary (Julie Smith) of Raymond, NH and Deborah (Robert Carley) of Auburn, NH.; and his adoptive son Bill Harvey. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
