Ewald; his wife Lesley; his sons, Jon Ewald (Julie) of South Portland, Mark Ewald (Kim) of Cocoa Beach, FL, Craig Ewald (Carolyn) of Falmouth, ME and Todd Ewald (Jeni) of Dover, DE; his brother Dr. Fred M. Ewald of Weston, MA; his siblings-in-law, Holly Bullard, Shelley Dunn and Harry Dunn; and his grandchildren, Trevor, Kate, Alexis, Brooks, Thomas (Mikayla), Rachel and Chase. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.
