John F. Brandts Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of John F. Brandts (York, Maine), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on July 1, 2025 at the age of 91. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his daughter Cindy Brandts; his parents, Carl Brandts and AnnaLee Brandts (Fesker); and his brother Dick Brandts. He is survived by: his wife Linda Hagan-Brandts; his children, Lilly Lasandra Salvia, Melanie Murphy, Bob Brandts, Deb Bettag and Mike Brandts; his sister Karla Brandts; and his stepchildren, James Witmer and Shannon Ortiz. He is also survived by grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John's microcalorimeter was a critical part of the development of many drugs and vaccines, including the COVID vaccines, and in 1999 he was awarded the prestigious Huffman Memorial Award in recognition of his many valuable contributions to the fields of thermochemistry and thermodynamics.
