He was predeceased by: his parents, David Strater and Jean S. Strater; and his brother Minshall Strater of Greensboro, N. C.. He is survived by: his wife Jean A. Strater; his children, Nicholas Strater (Danielle) of North Hampton, N. H. and Fiona Robinson (Tom) of Kennebunk; and his siblings, Jonathan (Patricia) of York, Nanette Ruppert of Surry and Katherine Strater of Surry. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
