He was predeceased by: his parents, Lowell C. Gattes and Cecil Gattes (Diver); and his brother Richard Gattes. He is survived by: his wife Janice West; his siblings, Kenneth Gattes (Karen), Ruth Old (Bud), Linda Jones (Keith), Bev Smith (Gerry) and Lois Cooper (Gary); and his sister-in-law Janet Gattes. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions in his memory may be given to the Lenawee Co. Humane Society, Careline Hospice, or the Alzheimer's Association.
