He was predeceased by : his parents, Clifford Raymond Fairbairn and Rose Marie Fairbairn (Leuthard); his brother Walter; and his sons, Steven and John.

He is survived by : his sons, Tom Fairbairn (Connie), Paul Fairbairn (Lisa) and Mark Fairbairn; his grandchildren, Samantha (Tom Loomis), Parker (Victoria) and Chase Fairbairn; his great grandchildren, Ella Mae, Amelia and Leigh; and his wife Jean.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to honor Tom's memory with a contribution may send gifts in his name to: The Inland Water Route Historical Society, Alanson Hillside Gardens, or Hospice of Northern Michigan.
