He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard McConnell and Margaret McConnell (Burnash); his brother Ralph McConnell; his half-brother Ray McKenzie; his son-in-law Doug Digue; and his nephew Todd McConnell.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Goudy; his children, Mark McConnell, Laurie Donakowski (Bryan), Peggy Humm (Mike) and Doug McConnell; his grandchildren, Jessica Bell (Mike Prosinski), William Holsworth, Catherine Kauffman (Brian), Ashley McConnell, Erica Digue, Brett Digue (Larissa), Brandon McConnell and Patrick Humm (Alyse); his stepgrandchildren, Nicole Blaauw (Jeremiah), Trisha Donakowski, Travis, Justin and Dylan Donakowski; his stepsiblings, Warren Swartzinski (Janet), Bernice Harkins (Mike), Janet Rohn, Neil Bellmore and Larry Bellmore (Janet); and his sister-in-law Janie McConnell. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The military honors will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Bannan Funeral Home (222 S 2nd Ave, Alpena, MI 49707). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 6th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church (167 S Ripley Blvd, Alpena, MI 49707).
Interment: Evergreen Cemetery, In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church.
