He was predeceased by : his parents, Richard LaPlaunt and Bertha LaPlaunt (Lannoo); his daughter Sheri VanWieren; his siblings, William LaPlaunt and Norma Best (Carl); and his sister-in-law Louise LaPlaunt (Penny Ruth).

He is survived by : his wife Joyce Hodges; his daughter Leslie Schmanski (James); his son-in-law Bruce VanWieren (Robin); his grandchildren, Ross VanWieren (Lindsey Demmink), Paige Bush (CJ), Alex Code, Emily Wilk (Ryan), Jane Schmanski (Ben Budnik), Jack Schmanski, Madyson Baranowski and Reidyr Demmink; his great grandchildren, Nash, Kane and Miles; his brother Richard LaPlaunt; and his sister-in-law Karen LaPlaunt. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
