He was predeceased by : his father Theodore; and his siblings, Ralph Sommerfeld, Donald Sommerfeld, Elmer Sommerfeld, Lois Turski, Norvel Sommerfeld (Butch), Rita Nelson, Betty Baker, Myles Sommerfeld and Eunice Braidwood.

He is survived by : his wife Darlene Hopp; his children, David Sommerfeld (Becky), Annette Timm (Sam) and Daniel Sommerfeld (Suzanne Hawes); his grandchildren, Matthew Sommerfeld (Kim Gilbert), Chase Sommerfeld, Ashten Berriman (Sam), Haley Wadzinski (David), Zachary Timm (Alyssa Miriani) and Wil Hawes; his great grandchild Gwendolyn Sommerfeld; and his brothers-in-law, Robert Nelson and Richard Braidwood. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
