We are sad to announce that, on December 29, 2021, at the age of 87, Bernard Levine (Ann Arbor, Michigan) passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his brother Saul Levine (late Joanne). He is survived by: his wife Mary Jo Levine; his stepchildren, Joel May (Rebekah), Angie May and Stepanie Collazo (Ivan); his nephews, Aaron Levine (Miriam) and Murray Levine; and his niece Sharyn Gilfix (David). He is also survived by step-grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

“When I was a young assistant professor at Wayne State University, in Detroit, at the end of the 1970s, Bernard alone among senior faculty members supported me in my bid for tenure. He saw something that the dour seniors insisted on hiding, wrapped up as they were in the quest for correct methodology -- the voice of a poet that would finally express itself and grow because of such support as his. Bernard's soft smile and firm voice supported what was not obvious to the orthodox. Bless him.”
