For Jan is not truly gone, but merely transformed, her energy intertwined with the fabric of the universe itself, forever dancing among the stars.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Margaret Barney (Chaffin) and Oris L. Barney; and her husband Dr. M. Haskell "Hack" Newman. She is survived by: her sister Dr. Jonne Barney Walter; her brother-in-law Dr. Paul Walter of Georgia; and her sons, Dr. Christopher Newman (Carolyn), Nicholas (Barbara), Timothy (Emily) and Matthew (Suzanna). She is also survived by seven grandchildren and many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, Jan requested that a contribution be made to Ann Arbor Girls Group (https://www.girlsgroup.org), an organization dedicated to helping young women become economically and emotionally self-sufficient.
