He was predeceased by : his father John Hiram Carpenter; and his brother John Carpenter (Carpenter Brothers Hardware). He is survived by : his mother Ruth Edith Johnson Carpenter; his children, Kristin Carpenter (John Supsic) of Lafayette and Benjamin Carpenter (Katie Carpenter) of Ann Arbor; his former life partner Kathleen Engel; his grandchildren, Theo, Ada Supsic, Logan and Julian Carpenter; and his brother Kent Carpenter.
