He is survived by: his wife Susan Salmeron; his daughter Kelli Johnson; his son-in-law Eric Scheel-Ayers; his granddaughters, Kennedi Riecks and Sydney Barlow; his daughter-in-law Terri Lee; his grandchildren, Addison Lee and Connor Lee; his siblings, Robert Salmeron, Ros Salmeron of Harlingen, Mary Ellen Gomez of Evanston, Patty Molter, Chuck Molter of Chicago, Yvonne Smith (Bonnie), Larry Smith of Mount Prospect, Richard Salmeron and Rhonda Salmeron of Grand Rapids; Jason Lee and Kelli Johnson.

“I knew Ralph at the University of Pittsburgh. He was a couple of years older than me and *way* cooler. I admired him and looked up to him. He told me of playing basketball as a kid in Chicago with his dad, of Lane Tech and of his love for the Four Seasons. We shared 2 fantastic road trips in his car: to Menominee, Wisconsin; and over Christmas break 1970 to meet his family and onward on a pilgrimage following what was left of Route 66 "from Chicago to L.A." I've always remembered him fondly.”
