With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Daniel James Applegate of Athens, Michigan, born in Battle Creek, Michigan, who passed away on February 13, 2023 at the age of 86. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Kenneth Applegate and Aileen Applegate (Ayers); his wife Gloria Applegate; his son Joseph Applegate; his siblings, Neil Applegate, Shirley Smith and Judy Applegate; and his grandson Daniel Applegate.

He is survived by: his son Steven Applegate of Athens; his siblings-in-law, Sharon Applegate of East Leroy and Richard Smith of Battle Creek; his grandchildren, Michael Applegate (Angela), Nicole Banaszewski (J. B.), Heather Applegate, Adrianne Applegate and Amanda Cole (Matthew); his great grandchildren, Zachary, Caleb, Jeffrey, Brayden, Bailey, Vivian, Elliot and Theo; his close friend Jean Hanson; his daughter-in-law Jeannie Russell; and his grandchildren-in-law, Ian and Kaitlin Russell.
