Eva H. Settle Obituary
Eva Hannelore Settle, a beacon of love and intelligence, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2025, at her home in Auburn, Michigan. Born on May 4, 1934, in Gross-Rohrheim, Germany, Eva's journey was one marked by determination, creativity, and an unwavering dedication to her family.
Eva's early life in Germany laid the foundation for her resilient spirit. With formal education ending at eighth grade, she took to working in a factory, selflessly contributing to her oldest brother's education. Her commitment to family was a golden thread that wove through every aspect of her life. In her later years, Eva proudly became a naturalized citizen of the United States, a day she often recounted as one of her greatest achievements.
For 35 remarkable years, Eva was a steadfast employee at Sears, where she forged lifelong friendships and left an indelible mark with her work ethic and warm personality. Retirement did not slow her down; it only gave her more time to indulge in the activities she loved. Bowling, attending theater plays, enjoying casino bingos, and playing cards with family and friends were among her favorite pastimes.
Eva was a woman of many talents and interests, but she was also a teacher at heart. She taught herself to read English through the colorful panels of comic strips, a testament to her intelligence and creative approach to life's challenges. Her love for the "funnies" was something she carried with her, a small joy that sparked much laughter over the years.
Her home was a hub of love and laughter, where her children, Dave (Vicki) Tedrow, Faye (George) Lewis, and Donna (Steve) DeFrain, were nurtured alongside her grandchildren, David and Libra Tedrow, Ronnie (Jessica) Tedrow, Randy Tedrow, and Dana Tedrow. Eva's legacy further blossomed with the joy of her great-grandchildren, Brianna (Cody) White, Autumn, Payga, Lillie, Ava, and Emmett Tedrow, who will carry forward her stories and strength.
In every corner of Eva's life, there was evidence of her loving nature—a nature that extended to her faithful companion, Sophie, who was ever-present by her side.
