He was predeceased by: his parents, Homer Calvin and Mable Root (Warner); his siblings, Richard Root and Vicki Blonde; and his son John Albert Root.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Ann Dear; his children, Shirley Root Moore and Douglas Root; his grandchildren, Rebekah Tesch (Christopher), Jordon Moore (Alexandria Ermel), Elijah Moore and Alison Root; his great grandchildren, Destiny Rowse, Johnathan, Hayden and Bentley Tesch; and his brother Harry Root (Judy). He is also survived by several cousins and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 25th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Farley Estes Dowdle Funeral Home & Cremation Care (105 Capital Ave NE, Battle Creek, MI 49017). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Cornerstone Community Church (3030 Beckley Rd, Battle Creek, MI 49015). A burial will be held on Monday, October 26th 2026 at the Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens-Chapel (1490 E Michigan Ave, Battle Creek, MI 49014).
Memorial contributions in memory of Homer may be made to Cornerstone Community Church 3030 Beckley Road or Legacy Thrift Shop 1550 W. Columbia to purchase Bibles for the country of Venezuela.
