He was predeceased by: his parents, Winfried Bauer and Lena Bauer (Porter); and his wife Paula L. Bauer. He is survived by: his children, James W. Bauer Jr. of Plainfield, IL., John W. Bauer of Suwanee, GA. and Cynthia J. Bauer of Forest Park, IL; and his grandchildren, Andrew, Justin, Robert, Chelsea and Levi.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the University of Michigan Alumni Association c/o Battle Creek Community Foundation.
