He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul A. Smith Sr. and Vera C. Smith (McMillan). He is survived by: his wife Barbara L. Smith; his siblings, Paul A. Smith Jr. (Phyllis), Christine McNamee and Laurie Medlen (David); his children, David Smith (Elesha), Kathryn Sears (Randy), Aaron Smith (Karen) and Amanda Hughes (Don); his grandchildren, Bradly Sears (Taylor), Jason Sears, Camila Lynn (Matthew), Maggie Ramirez (Anthony), Zachary Sears, Joel Smith, Jessica Hughes-Porter (Christopher), Megan Smith, Kirsten Smith, Shannon Hughes and Kyle Smith; and his great grandchildren, Ellie Dye and Henry Sears.
