Joyce D. Johnston Obituary
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Joldersma & Klein Funeral Home, 917 S. Burdick St., Kalamazoo; Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 p.m. Contributions in memory of Joyce may be made to SPCA of Southwest Michigan or Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan, in c/o the funeral home.
Age 90 of Battle Creek passed away Sunday morning, December 7, 2025. Joyce was born in Nashville, TN on August 18, 1935, the daughter of Oscar and Delia Lee (Duren) Abbott. Joyce worked as a Registered Nurse at Saginaw General Hospital. She was an avid reader especially of detective spy novels. In her younger days she loved quilting. Joyce was a devoted University of Michigan football fan. She also liked doing jigsaw puzzles. Joyce is survived by her sons, Steven (Christine) Kindy of Kalamazoo, David E. Kindy of New Lothrop, MI, Mark Kindy of Altoona, PA; son-in-law, Ken Karst; grandchildren, Tristan (Lindsay) Dyer- Kindy, Alyssa (Patrick) Konesko, Greyson Kindy, Haley Kindy, Brianna (Michael) Hart, Joshua Karst; great -grandchildren, Vivian, Rowan, Remy, Olivia and Beckett; siblings, Lena Fralick, Judy (Jim) Hammel, Sharon (Jim) Norwood; several nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Julie Karst; sisters, Louise Hendon, Sandra Travis; brother, Paul Abbott; and special four-legged friend, Critter.
