He was predeceased by: his parents, George Murphy and Lillian Murphy (Eichelberger); and his sisters, Sharon, Jo and Dorothy.

He is survived by: his children, Michael Murphy (Mindy) and Pamela Murphy; his grandchildren, Nicholas Murphy (Amanda), Ryan Murphy (DeAnna) and Michael Nicklas; and his stepchildren, Christy Schafer and William Bolton. He is also survived by 5 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Memorial tributes may be made to the Art Center of Battle Creek.
