He was predeceased by: his parents, Elwin Schmidt and Ada Schmidt (VanSweeden); and his sister Carol Sue Tuin. He is survived by: his wife Becky Schmidt; his children, Missy Ruud (Steve Roossien) and Mike Schmidt (Tiffany); and his grandsons, Jason Ruud (Kristin), Nathan Ruud (Maria) and Tyler Schmidt. He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren; and a nephew.

Memorial tributes may be made to Animal Rescue Project in Kalamazoo, MI.
