He was predeceased by: his parents, Vern Smittendorf and Marjorie Smittendorf (Metty); his son Dan Smittendorf; his stepdaughter Sarah Laya; and his sister Patricia Thorson.
He is survived by: his daughter Shannon Frizzo (Dan); his stepchildren, Nia Suter and Ben Laya; his sister Vicky Biesel; and his grandchildren, Derek Smittendorf (Ashley), Darci Heath (Nathan), Maggie Frizzo, Lucas Frizzo, Pierre Laya, Anthony Kennedy, Ashley Smittendorf and Dr. Jennifer Smittendorf. He is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 21st 2025 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Richard A Henry Funeral Home (703 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49015).
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made to Athens Area Community Foundation for Lee Smittendorf Scholarship Fund.
