He was predeceased by: his parents, Wylie Young and Alice Young (Latta); his son Darren M. Young; his stepson Joe Ooten; and his siblings, Dale Young and Willo J. VanNortwick.

He is survived by: his wife Peggy Cooper; his son Richard Young (Michele); his stepdaughters, Cathy Ooten, Shelly Hoffman and Susie Rummel; and his close friend Sandy Robinette.

Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
