He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Julius and Iva Mae Herwarth (Blunt); his son James C. Herwarth; his grandsons, Jamie R. Herwarth and Nicklas W. Barnes; his siblings, Alice Sampson, Carl Herwarth, Richard Herwarth and Victor Herwarth; and his children-in-law, Deborah Herwarth, Daniel Barnes and Mark Kincaid.
He is survived by: his children, Roberta Lynn Barnes of Battle Creek, Richard Herwarth (Rusty Ann) of Battle Creek, Cynthia Kincaid-Collier (Ted) of Battle Creek, Robert Louis Herwarth, II (Hope) of Reading and Brian "Skip" Douglas of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; and his siblings, Frida Miles of Battle Creek and Walt Herwarth (Penny) of Battle Creek. He is also survived by his 17 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 14 great- great grandchildren.
