Dorothy M. LaPrairie Obituary
Dorothy LaPrairie of Bay City passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025 at the age of 94. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend known for her love of God, her love of family, and her love of many friends. Born in Essexville on September 22, 1930 to the late Nicholas and Margaret (DeWyse) Wiedyk. Dorothy lived a life filled with love, laughter, and service to others. She graduated valedictorian of class of 1948 from St. Johns High School.
Ken and Dorothy met in 1946 and together they built a life filled with dancing, snowmobiling, golfing, fishing, hiking and their shared love of the lord.
She was a loving and supportive mother to Linda (John) Burdick, Diane (Al) Landosky, Jan (Dan) Sugar, and Daniel (Elizabeth) LaPrairie. Her Grandchildren Chris and Jason Carter, Amy Palm, Karen Willis, Lisa Smith, Eric Landosky, Denielle Wiess, and Jason Sugar brought her joy. She is also survived by her 3 sisters Tina Periard, Sue Ryan and Marge (Tom) Zumer and a sister-in-law Nancy Wiedyk. Dorothy was preceded in death by husband Kenneth, her 3 brothers Lawrence (Sam) and Rose Wiedyk, Richard (Moon) Wiedyk, and Francis (Frank) Wiedyk; brothers-in-law John Periard and Patrick Ryan. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
The family would like to thank the awesome staff at Woodhaven and Heart to Heart Hospice for the excellent care mom received in her last few months. In lieu of flowers the family has asked to consider to donate for family wishes.
Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday July 1, 2025 at 11am from Prince of Peace Scared Heart Campus with Rev Fr. Prentice Tipton presiding with entombment at St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 2pm till 8pm at Rivertown Funeral Chapel. On Tuesday from 10am till time of service at the church.
