He was predeceased by: his parents, George Rettelle and Marguerite Rettelle (Dubay); his wife Elaine Marie Verhaeghe; his son-in-law Lloyd Helmreich; and his grandson-in-law OJ Christian.
He is survived by: his children, Linda Helmreich, Diane Stack (Denny), Kathy Leibler (Rick), Joseph Jr. Rettelle (Kim), David Rettelle (Deirdre), Debra Rettelle, Mark Rettelle and Chad Rettelle (Amy); and his sisters-in-law, Marilyn Verhaeghe and Evelyn Lawrence. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.
