He was predeceased by : his father Peter Katzinger. He is survived by : his wife Jerrolynn; his sons, Joshua Katzinger (Sherri) and Dr. Joseph Katzinger (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Caleb Katzinger and Lilly Katzinger; his sister Linda Williams (Richard); his sister-in-law Mary Lou Carter (Eric); his nieces, Lynn and Shea; and his nephew Gareth.

Denise Rankin wrote a sympathy message

“I taught at Linsday Elementary School from 1987-1992, when Leon served as the school principal there. I had moved to Bay City from North Dakota and knew no one. Leon and his staff at the time welcomed me warmly. I still think Leon was the best administrator with whom I ever had the pleasure of working. He was a strong leader who teachers and school children respected. He also had a way of being quite humorous and lightening staff meetings. I will always remember him fondly. - Denise Rankin”
