He was predeceased by: his brother Neil Baum; and the mother of his children Denise Baum. He is survived by: his children, Natalie Baum (Scott Levine), Steven Baum, Aaron Baum (Kacey) and David Baum; his grandchildren, Shai, Daisy and Eloise Baum; his siblings, Elissa Berg (Yaacov Scholar) and Daniel Baum (Diane); his fiancée Jacquelyn Pierce; and his fiancée's daughters, Alexandra (Zac Taves) and Samantha. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

“I never spent time with Mr. Baum but did a lot of the early work for his Famous Dave's restaurants... Famous Dave called me last night to let me know Mr. Baum had passed away. Dave spoke very highly of Mr. Baum as did those who worked with me in those early days on his behalf. May perpetual light shine upon Mr. Baum... I am sure he will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.”
