He was predeceased by: his parents, Eugene G. Porter and Lucy M. Porter (Knoch); his grandson Carl Porter; his son Junior Ace Porter; and his brothers, Art, Gomer and Eugene Porter, Jr..

He is survived by: his wife Kathleen M. Hutchinson; his sons, Don Porter of Washburg and George Porter (Kathy) of Fort Wayne, Indiana; and his siblings, Sharon Daily, Wayne Porter (Kathy), Susie Porter, Terry Porter (Gloria), Melodie Ancel (Randy), Cindy Sutterfield, Becky Kumfer and Marion Woodberry. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
