He was predeceased by: his father William Paul Compton; his grandparents, George, Ida Wood, William Don and Ocie Compton; his brother Terry Wood; and his siblings-in-law, John Sommers and Tracy Lynn Robinson.

He is survived by: his wife Gretchen Hanners; his sons, Joshua Compton and Vern (Courtney); his mother Georgia Compton; his parents-in-law, Michael and Dee Sliwinski; and his siblings, Debbie Sommers, Cindy Bailey, Don Compton (Ellen) and Tommy Wood. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
