He was predeceased by: his parents, Ralph Bates and Elma Bates (Britton); his wife Jane Marie Myers; his siblings, Jean, Robert, Norma, Arlene and Ruth; his son-in-law Chuck Marshall; and his grandson Nathan Marshall.
He is survived by: his siblings, Merl and Marion; his children, Rick Bates (Wanda), Ann Layton (David) and Beth Marshall; and his grandchildren, Jason, Kyle, Andrew, Kristin, Jenny and Sarah. He is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren & 7 great, great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Lakeview Cemetery (8400 W 6 Mile Rd, Irons, MI 49644).
