He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Nelson and Florence Nelson (Hall); his wife Ruth Ann Nelson; and his brother-in-law Tony Homminga. He is survived by: his pet Maggie; his children, Darci Mierendorf (Dan), Gerald C. Nelson Jr. (Sheryl) and Kevin Nelson (Heather); his grandchildren, Evan Mierendorf (Grace), Aron Mierendorf, Zoey Mierendorf (Nicholas Seddon), Jordan Yant (Blake), McKenna Nelson and Miranda VanderVeen (Joe Phillips); his great grandchild Theodore Mierendorf; and his siblings, Patricia Homminga, Ron Nelson (Bev) and Rick Nelson (Bonnie). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and special friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 3rd 2026 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Pederson Funeral Home (127 N Monroe St, Rockford, MI 49341).
