He was predeceased by: his parents, Harold Godby and Mary Alice Godby. He is survived by: his wife Marjorie Bennett Godby; his children, Lara Johnston (Steven), Dana Smith (Daniel) and Neal Godby, Jr.; his great grandchildren, Mary DeMoss (Michael), Emily Smith, Shae Johnston, Thomas Johnston, Madison Luce and Melissa DeMoss; his siblings, Gail Godby (Melanie), James Godby and Betty Ayers; and his stepmother Rosemary Godby. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews.
