She was predeceased by: her husband Peter Visser; her former husband James Balfoort; her son Bruce Balfoort; her parents, Gerard VanderZyden and Christine VanderZyden; her siblings, Gerard VanderZyden and Elsa Mlejnek; and her siblings-in-law, Jack Brown and Gay VanderZyden.
She is survived by: her daughter Mary Balfoort (Dawn Outwin); her grandchild Ashley Balfoort (Eric Smith); her great grandchild Renn Smith; and her brother-in-law Len Mlejnek. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In honor of Ethel and in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Salvation Army.
