He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Ebele Hekstra and Jelske Hekstra; his wife Frances Slendebroek; his siblings, Romke Hekstra (The Netherlands) and Annie Kouwenhoven (The Netherlands); his sons, Edward Hekstra (Melanie), Michael Hekstra (Susan), Roger Hekstra (Mary) and Dave Hekstra (Deb); his grandchildren, Amanda Ophoff (Ed), Amy VanTil (Tim), Jared Hekstra (Stacy), Laura Langerak (Tyler), Kristen Sherwood (Jeff), Kelly Rozema (Josh), Scott Hekstra (Sarah), Kaitlyn Higby (Henry), Katherine Verma (Arunabh), Mitchell Hekstra (Maria), David Hekstra (Julia), Elizabeth Cashmus (Keith), Kaley Heerema (Adam) and Seth Hekstra (Katelyn); his brother Henk Hekstra (The Netherlands); his siblings-in-law, Jan Kouwenhoven (The Netherlands), Rika Slendebroek, Elsie Pott, Tom Slendebroek and Marianne Morell (Don); and his cousins, Dick Zylstra, Gerrit Zylstra, Uko Zylstra (Jane) and Grace Albers. He was also cherished by 45 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Thursday, May 28th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the Cutlerville East Christian Reformed Church (501 68th St SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49548). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 28th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
