He was predeceased by: his father Clyde; his former wife Phyllis Hawkins (Kirk); his son Gary Hawkins; his stepson Rick Velfling; his great grandchild Riley Proctor; his stepgrandson Jason "JJ" Kiser; his stepson Gregory Velfling; and his siblings, Jean Leiding, Betty Bailey, Iris Schmuck, Leon, Michael and Willard Hawkins.
He is survived by: his wife Jeanette Hawkins (Velfling); his daughter Sheryl Talsma (Bruce); his grandchildren, Keith Talsma (Erin) and Leah Schmuker (Dan); his stepchildren, Dianna Kiser (Thomas) and Rudy Velfling (Tamra); his stepdaughter-in-law Rebecca Velfling; and his sister Mary Lamb (Bill). He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild, 9 step-grandchildren; 4 step great grandchildren; 4 step great great grandchildren.
